The purpose of Green Branch is to persuade major banks around the world to designate one virtual branch or create a product under the Green Branch quality mark.

The Bank’s new & existing customers can make deposits at this branch or via this product assured that  an equal or greater amount will be made available by that bank,   as a whole, for projects that are beneficial to the environment. 

The advantage of the idea is that it utilises the existing universal banking system to make it easy for banks to establish a Green Branch by simply creating a new sort code or product. Existing & prospective customers can easily "switch" to a Green Branch or Green Branch deposit account, without administrative complication.

New customers will be attracted in the knowledge that the Green Branch member bank is at the forefront of environmental thinking.
